UNAM Faculty of Engineering, Ongwediva
When the University of Namibia (UNAM) embarked on the ambitious, billion-dollar Faculty of Engineering project in Ongwediva, Emcon was chosen as the trusted partner for its electrical and mechanical services. This monumental "green-fields" development is more than just academic buildings; it's a testament to sustainable engineering.
Our role has encompassed the comprehensive Mechanical and Electrical design and supervision for the first five phases, with our appointment now extending to the next. A core focus has been substantial energy efficiency implementations. We've integrated forward-thinking solutions like on-site biogas digesters and a 280kW solar PV grid-feed power generation system, harnessing Namibia's abundant sunshine to power the campus and reduce its environmental footprint. This project truly embodies how cutting-edge engineering can support a sustainable future for education.
NUST (Polytechnic) Postgraduate and Research Hub
For over two decades, Emcon has been a consistent partner in the significant expansion and modernisation of the Postgraduate and Research Hub at NUST in Windhoek. We've been engaged in more than six large building projects with a combined value exceeding N$1.25 billion, shaping the campus into a hub of modern, energy-efficient learning.
Our work on facilities like the Resource Centre Building, Science & Technology Building, School of Health Building, School of Architecture Building, and the New Engineering Faculty Building has prioritised energy efficiency. This includes specialised air conditioning systems, advanced lighting control systems, the careful selection of state-of-the-art energy-efficient lighting, and meticulous attention to effective shading and the maximisation of natural daylight in internal spaces. These measures significantly reduce operational costs and environmental impact, creating optimal learning environments.
National Medical School, Windhoek
A nation's health infrastructure is paramount, and Emcon is incredibly proud to have played a pivotal role in the green-fields construction of the National Medical School in Windhoek. With a total project value upon completion of all phases exceeding N$1 billion, this institution is set to revolutionise medical education and healthcare in Namibia.
From the very first phase, Emcon has been responsible for all Mechanical and Electrical services, ensuring the seamless integration of highly specialised installations. This includes extensive medical equipment a cutting-edge, and a world-class anatomy department featuring state-of-the-art HVAC design to maintain precise environmental conditions. This project exemplifies our capability to deliver complex, high-stakes facilities that meet international standards for specialised medical environments.
At Emcon, sustainability isn't just a trendy fad; it's a moral imperative. As evidence of this commitment, we are also registering our own offices with the Green Star (Existing Building) rating tool, and we actively train our staff to become Green Star Accredited Professionals, ensuring sustainability is deeply embedded in everything we do.
